Vote For Marriage NC Officially Launches

By Tami Fitzgerald, Chairwoman
Vote For Marriage NC, info@voteformarriagenc.com
January 23, 2012

Dear Marriage Supporter,

North Carolina’s drive to preserve marriage as God designed it – the union of one man and one woman – has been officially launched!

As you likely know, a bi-partisan majority of the North Carolina Legislature voted to put a Marriage Protection Amendment before voters on the May 8, 2012 primary ballot. To ensure this amendment passes, we have been busy putting together a coalition of marriage supporters who have come together and formed the Vote FOR Marriage NC campaign. This campaign is off to a fast start and we need your help to keep the momentum going to Election Day.

Today we launched our website www.VoteFORMarriageNC.com. Here you can sign up to receive campaign updates, find out ways to volunteer, download materials and also donate directly to the campaign. Over the coming weeks we will need marriage supporters like you to help grow our grassroots effort, make phone calls to voters, knock on doors, and place a yard sign in your lawn. We must start spreading the word now about this important amendment. You can also help spread the word by liking us on Facebook, following us on Twitter, YouTube and Flickr.

Thirty states have adopted marriage amendments preserving marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Every state to consider a marriage amendment has adopted it. North Carolina is the only southern state not to have yet voted on a marriage amendment. This is our one and only chance to preserve marriage from being redefined by activist judges and aggressive special interest groups.

Special interest groups are busy trying to redefine marriage and cut voters out of the process. They are filing lawsuits in court asking judges to substitute their views for the views of the vast majority of voters in our state. Unless the Marriage Protection Amendment is adopted, our marriage laws are vulnerable to one of these judges deciding that men should marry other men, or even that marriage should be declared to be unconstitutional.  This is what has happened in other states, and it could happen here unless we pass the amendment.
The NC marriage protection amendment will protect against redefining marriage by placing our current definition of marriage – the union of one man and one woman – directly into the state constitution.  That’s the only way to make sure that liberal state judges or a future legislature are not able to redefine marriage. It makes sure that voters will always be in charge of the definition of marriage in North Carolina because marriage could only be changed by voters themselves.

Vote FOR Marriage NC is comprised of a multitude of policy organizations, denominations, and civic groups. Its Executive Committee consists of the Christian Action League, NC Values Coalition, a coalition of African American pastors, NC Baptists, and the National Organization for Marriage (NOM).

Stay tuned for more updates about the campaign to protect marriage in North Carolina. And please, help us reach more voters with news about the amendment by making a donation to our campaign.

Sincerely,
Tami Fitzgerald

Dear Friends,

This may be the most critical post that we have ever posted on CAL’s website. “Vote For Marriage NC” has now officially launched its campaign in favor of the Marriage Protection Amendment to be voted on during the Primary, May 8th.  The protection of marriage as one man and one woman is the definitive of issue of this generation. The Christian Action League serves on the Executive Committee for the campaign. Victory will require an “all hands on deck” approach. I trust you will earnestly pray, asking God what he would have you do to protect his first institution – marriage.
