Dear Friends,
I was speaking with a lady who explained that she recently had knee surgery. I took it that she was a bit concerned about her recovery. I wanted to say something to cheer her up, and so I told her this story:
A man goes to a doctor and says, “Doc, you gotta check my leg. Something’s wrong. Just put your ear up to my thigh, you’ll hear it!”
The doctor cautiously placed his ear to the man’s thigh only to hear, “Gimme twenty bucks, I really need twenty bucks.”
“I’ve never seen or heard anything like this before, how long has this been going on?” The doctor asked.
“That’s nothing Doc. put your ear to my knee.”
The doctor put his ear to the man’s knee and heard it say, “Man, I really need ten bucks, just lend me ten bucks!!”
“Sir, I really don’t know what to tell you. I’ve never seen anything like this.” The doctor was dumbfounded.
“Wait, Doc, that’s not it. There’s more, just put your ear up to my ankle,” the man urged him.
The doctor did as the man said and was blown away to hear his ankle plead, “Please, I just need five bucks. Lend me five bucks, please, if you can.”
“I have no idea what to tell you,” the doctor said. “There’s nothing about it in my books,” he said as he frantically searched all his medical reference books.
“I can make a well-educated guess, though. Based on life and all my previous experience, I’d say your leg appears to be broke in three places.”
That story made the woman chuckle. I hope it had the same effect on you.
But allow me to share something with you that isn’t funny – something quite serious. The Christian Action League is not broke, but I am concerned that because we operate so closely, the current health crisis could precipitate it.
Because of the coronavirus health crisis, the Governor ordered that there be no mass gatherings of more than 100 people. This is likely to have a negative financial impact on many businesses, but unquestionably, churches will need to cancel worship services or find creative ways to bring their people together. When the regular course of events and services for churches is disrupted, this has a profound effect on church contributions.
Most of the Christian Action League’s support comes from churches, and when church contributions are down, it hits the League very hard. I’m very concerned about the way this is going to affect our ability to operate.
That is why I am asking you to send your best contribution to the Christian Action League right now. We have to raise enough funds to make sure we remain operative during this crisis period.
I know you have your own uncertainties. Nevertheless, I appeal to your spirit of generosity and your recognition of our essential work.
The Christian Action League needs to raise at least $10,000 asap.
Won’t you please help us?
Perhaps your church, Sunday School class, or Missions organization could contribute. We appreciate donations of any size: $25, $50, $100, or more.
Your contribution is needed right away. There is no time to waste.
