“Last week, on April 15th, tax day, I counted my blessings and then sent them to Washington. Caesar got his due. Yet I owe God more. I owe him everything. Caesar may have his image stamped on a coin, but God has his image stamped on me. I can’t set up a false dichotomy and say I owe the state this and God that. That’s not what Jesus was teaching when he said, ‘Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, and unto God what is God’s.’ Indeed, certain institutions and public figures are owed their due, but God is owed everything. It all really belongs to him, and we dare not withhold from him what is his due. This is what Jesus was talking about.”
