My Dear Christian Friends,
The time to put your Christian convictions into action at the ballot box is here. It’s Primary Election Day!
It is my earnest prayer that you will use the most sacred right American Citizens share – our right to govern through our vote.
I pray that you will perform your Christian duty by going to the polls today and voting your Christian convictions. Let the principles of your faith direct you as you mark your ballot in support of various candidates. Imagine Jesus himself standing with in the voting booth, watching you as you cast a vote in His name and for the sake of His eternal purposes.
Moreover, I trust that you will Vote FOR the Marriage Amendment. Personally I find it difficult to believe that a faithful application of one’s Christian faith – one consistent with the teachings of Holy Scripture – would allow for any other vote.
As you prepare to cast your vote, beware:
- Beware of being deceived: Contrary to what you may have heard from those who object to the Marriage Amendment, the amendment does one thing and one thing alone: it protects the definition of marriage as the union between one man and one woman. It does not impact other couples or the benefits they receive. It does not impact domestic violence laws, interfere with existing child custody and visitation rights, or invalidate trusts, wills and end-of-life desires. These allegations against the Marriage Amendment are blatantly false and meant to frighten people from voting for it. But the Marriage Amendment is really about preserving and saving marriage as one man and one woman. It’s about preventing activist judges or future legislatures from redefining the sacred institution. That’s why everyone should Vote FOR the Marriage Amendment.
- Beware of being confused: Media outlets are saying some voters might be confused by the wording of the amendment and mistakenly vote against it, when meaning to vote for marriage as one man and one woman. Don’t be confused. The wording is simple on the ballot. It simply reads:
“Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state.”
This means anyone wanting to protect and preserve marriage in North Carolina as one man and one woman should Vote FOR the Marriage Amendment. A Vote FOR the Marriage Amendment is a vote for traditional marriage.
- Beware of being deterred. Marriage is foundational to our culture. It touches us on every level of life – from the front door steps of our homes – to the church house steps – to the steps of the capital building. There is no issue of greater gravity to be considered by our state’s citizens than how marriage will ultimately be defined among us. The decision on the Marriage Amendment will affect us for many years to come. Make a vote on the Marriage Amendment your top priority today. Don’t allow anything to deter you from getting to the polls to cast your vote!
Currently, the latest polling available indicates pro-amendment forces have the momentum. However, polls only site what “likely voters” will do. Political victories are won by “actual voters.”
I am convinced that if God’s people will show up at the polls and Vote FOR the Marriage Amendment, it should prevail.
In closing, let me thank all of you who have worked so hard to get the Marriage Amendment passed. It’s been a long, long, journey in the making – more than eight years in total.
Now, let us all pray earnestly that the Lord will secure the victory on this Primary Election Day, while remembering that faith without works is dead (James 2:14). Go vote!!!!!!!!!
