The Christian Action League is encouraging the pro-life community to contact their legislators in light of Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper’s announcement that he will hold a “Veto Rally” Saturday on the Bicentennial Mall in Raleigh. The Governor is resolved to stir as much opposition as possible to the recently passed 12-week abortion ban.
Legislators last week passed SB 20 – The Care for Women, Children, and Families Act. The bill would lower the limit for elective abortions from 20 to 12 weeks. It includes exceptions for rape, incest, and the mother’s life.
Cooper, in a tweet, announced he would hold the event at 10 a.m., where he plans to veto the bill and encourage legislators to sustain his veto. Planned Parenthood, the premiere abortion provider, said it supports the rally.

“Join Governor Cooper on Saturday as he vetoes this dangerous abortion ban and rallies supporters to help sustain his veto,” the tweet said.
The rally will conclude the Governor’s travels across the state this week, focusing his visits within the districts of four GOP lawmakers to urge their constituents to ramp up the pressure by insisting that they uphold the state’s current abortion standards.
Governor Cooper has singled out Reps. Tricia Cotham and John Bradford of Mecklenburg County and Rep. Ted Davis and Sen. Michael Lee of New Hanover County, each of which he alleges expressed hesitancy about further abortion restrictions during their election campaigns.
Rev. Mark Creech, executive director of the Christian Action League, said it shouldn’t matter what these people may have said about abortion during their campaigns.
“I don’t remember nor know what they may have said on the subject,” said Rev. Creech. “But it is never wrong – never – never – never – to come into the light – change your mind – and do the right thing. What is always morally wrong is to sustain what is evil.”
Rev. Creech added: “Abortion after conception is wrong, and abortion after the first trimester is terribly wrong. For the League and its supporters, this bill was not the ideal to which we aspired. Nevertheless, this is where we are today. Obviously, there is more pro-lifers have to do to get us where we need to be as a culture of life. Nevertheless, if this measure becomes law, it will still save thousands of unborn lives.”
No legislation of such gravity has come before lawmakers in over fifty years. This is historic legislation!
For the override to be successful, all Republicans must be present and vote to override Governor Cooper’s veto.
“All we need is one Republican in either the House or Senate to step up… We can stop this extreme legislation in North Carolina,” Copper tweeted.
The bill includes extra money for foster care and increases the adoption tax credit. It also boosts assistance for prenatal care.

Don’t Hesitate to Contact your Representative and Senator in the North Carolina General Assembly.
The Christian Action League urges its supporting churches and pro-lifers everywhere in North Carolina to ask their lawmakers to override Cooper’s veto on SB 20 – Care for Women, Children, and Families Act.
Doing this will take you a few minutes, but it will be worthwhile if it saves one life!
Here’s a good plan for your contact:
- If you don’t know who represents you in the North Carolina House and Senate, go to the following link and get their contact information: https://www.ncleg.gov/FindYourLegislators
- Send an email in your own words. Tell them you are a constituent. Please give them your name and where you live.
- Follow up your email with a phone call. Leave a message with the lawmaker’s Legislative Assistant or another staff member if your lawmaker is not in the office or unavailable to speak with you when you call. You can also leave a voicemail. Again, it’s critical to tell them you are a constituent. Don’t forget to give them your name and where you live.
- Reject cynicism. You never know how God may use your voice in this matter. Remember the miracle of how Jesus used a small boy’s few loaves and fishes to feed thousands? God can also use what you give, even if it seems too small.
Lawmakers will be back in their offices from Monday evening through Thursday next week. You can call their office now and leave a voicemail. Whenever you choose to contact them, please make it as early in the week as possible. The House and Senate will likely act on the Governor’s veto quickly.
