RALEIGH — McDonald’s arches may still be golden, but the message the corporation is sending out is not one of value, at least not family values.
The Christian Action League of North Carolina is joining the American Family Association’s call for a boycott of the fastfood chain in response to its blatant promotion of the homosexual agenda.
“It’s a shame that McDonald’s would tarnish their family-friendly image,” said AFA Chairman Don Wildmon. “But the company has ramped up its support of the gay agenda and it leaves us no option but to call for a boycott.”
Not only did McDonald’s sponsor the San Francisco Gay Pride parade with a television commercial touting itself as a company that “actively demonstrates its commitment to the gay and lesbian community,” but McDonald’s spokesman Bill Whitman told the Washington Post that anyone who opposes homosexual marriage is motivated by “hate.” The company has also begun sponsoring training for homosexuals on how to aggressively promote their agenda inside the companies they work for.
“What people need to realize when they are buying that Happy Meal is that they are funding organizations like the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce,” said the Rev. Mark Creech, executive director of the Christian Action League. “We can’t stand by and let a company so link itself with the homosexual agenda without urging Christians to withdraw their support.”
In fact, McDonald’s not only gave $20,000 to the NGLCC, but Richard Ellis, vice president of communications for the hamburger giant, serves on the NGLCC board. The organization lists McDonald’s as a “corporate partner” and “organizational ally,” on its Web site.
“The NGLCC is an extremist, ‘gay’ activist organization that lobbies for leftist causes such as ‘gay marriage,’ and pushes for other policies that would grant special privileges to certain individuals who define themselves based upon unhealthy, traditionally immoral and changeable sexual behaviors,” wrote Matt Barber, director of Cultural Affairs with Liberty Counsel, in an editorial on the issue.
The company not only supports “Out and Equal Workplace Advocates” a national organization devoted to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in the workplace, but sent 56 employees to the “Pioneer Summit” in San Diego earlier this year to develop a plan to promote the gay agenda within McDonald’s.
AFA’s Wildmon made it clear on his organization’s Boycott McDonald’s Web site (www.boycottmcdonalds.com) that his call to arms against the company is not about its hiring or serving homosexuals or about how homosexual employees are treated, but rather it’s about “McDonald’s, as a corporation, refusing to remain neutral in the culture wars.”
Wildmon’s call for neutrality was answered with a letter from McDonald’s touting the company’s devotion to “inclusion” and “diversity” for all, regardless of “ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual orientation,” etc. The letter did not mention Whitman’s contention that anyone opposing homosexuality is a hatemonger.
“So, the truth is McDonald’s definition of ‘diversity’ doesn’t really mean diversity after all. The company has wholeheartedly bought into that euphemistic notion of ‘diversity’ pushed by liberal elites — a paradoxical model for ‘inclusion’ that only swings one way,” Barber wrote. “So when you hear McDonald’s talk about ‘diversity,’ what they’re really feeding you is warmed-over, anti-Christian bigotry in a cheap, thin wrapper.”
The Christian Action League is among a number of organizations joining the AFA’s call for a McDonald’s boycott. Officials with SaveBiblicalMarriage.org have staged protests in front of some of the chain’s California restaurants.
The president of Timothy Plan, a pro-family values mutual fund company, Art Ally told One News Now that its portfolios won’t include McDonald’s stock.
“McDonald’s actually has been on our screen or prohibited list since 1999 — so this is nothing new. What is new is the aggressive approach that they’re moving to, in promoting and supporting the homosexual agenda,” Ally said.
