“Since Donald Trump’s surprising victory in the 2016 election, the term ‘Christian nationalism’ has often been used pejoratively to describe conservative Christians who uphold the role of Christianity in American public life. While sociologists and media outlets have sensationalized this term, portraying it as a dire threat filled with racism and authoritarianism, the reality is that many so-called ‘Christian nationalists’ are simply defending traditional values and the historical influence of Christianity on American culture. The broad and often exaggerated use of ‘Christian nationalism’ serves more as a rhetorical weapon to discredit conservative viewpoints rather than accurately reflecting a coherent or dangerous ideology.”
