Now that Elena Kagan has been confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court, there’s little doubt about the role she’ll play: that of an extreme activist.
While most Americans can likely not name a single Supreme Court Justice, they can surely identify a liberal judge when they see one. Kagan’s reputation is so disturbing to the average citizen that Gallop polls show she is “the first successful nominee in recent years whose nomination was backed by less than a majority of Americans.” The Senate confirmation vote was 63-37.
I agree with Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council. He said that if President Obama can’t have a lifetime term, then he knows the next best thing is nominating Elena Kagan to one. Evidence unearthed during the days since her nomination shows she shares the President’s disgust for traditional morality, free speech, the military, individual liberty, unborn children, constitutional fidelity, and all things religious…. simply a mirror of his views.
Folks it can’t get worse than that, except that it’s so astoundingly unbelievable that there were not enough common sense members of the Senate to see the danger and to stop her appointment to this lifetime position. It sure is cause for question about the majority of the Senate’s loyalty to our nation.
The time we are living in brings to mind a study done by British anthropologist John D. Unwin. He conducted an in-depth study of 80 civilizations. The study made some amazing discoveries.
Examining four thousand years of history, he found a common thread running through all the civilizations. Each society began with strong moral values and a heavy emphasis on the family. Over the years, however, the conservative mind-set became more liberal and moral values declined. When values declined, families suffered.
In all 80 civilizations, the fall of the nation was related to the fall of the family. In most cases, that civilization fell within one generation of the decay of the biblical family unit.
Societies never collapse overnight. They only collapse after their foundations are eroded year after year, bad decision after bad decision.
Elijah the Prophet knew that, and he saw it happening in Israel. Something had to be done. Elijah’s preaching emphasized unconditional loyalty to God. That was in direct conflict with the practices of Ahab the King, who married Jezebel, daughter of Ethbaal, King of Tyre. Together Ahab and Jezebel were eroding the virtues held dear by the people of God and were implementing practices contrary to God’s Law (notice that nobody names their daughter Jezebel anymore).
Elijah called for a Mt. Carmel summit. He challenged 400 prophets of Baal to a contest. One challenge, winner takes all. ”The God who answers by fire, He is god.” (1 Kings 18:24).
Are we not in the same situation today? Pray that God will again answer by fire and stop the corrosion of virtues and values in the world. He did it before. He can do it again.
