CAL Executive Director says Christians should demonstrate their faith by urging support for this landmark legislation

Dear Citizen Christian,
The Scriptures tell us, “What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works (James 2:14-18). This text, in my estimation, is the quintessential verse in the Bible warning us that what we believe must be translated into action or the credibility of our profession of faith is undermined.
I want to ask you a few critical questions. Do you believe in family? Do you believe in Christian values? Do you believe in freedom of conscience? HB 695 – Family, Faith & Freedom Protection Act of 2013 is legislation currently being considered in the North Carolina General Assembly that contains all of these great virtues. The bill, which passed the Senate last week and is scheduled to be taken up by the House on Tuesday, July 9th, includes: (1) conscience protection for healthcare workers who don’t want to do anything that might lead to an abortion, (2) limits on abortion funding, (3) prohibitions on sex-selective abortions, (4) a provision requiring that doctors to be physically present for the full procedure whenever a chemical or surgical abortion is performed, (5) mandates abortion clinics have standards as high as surgical ambulatory centers, and (6) makes certain that no foreign law, like Sharia law, is applied in any family court action in North Carolina. If you really believe such legislation needs to be enacted into law, now is the time to put your beliefs into action – now is the time to show your faith by your works – now is the time to speak up – while this measure moves to the House for consideration. An opportunity like this may never come again!

How important is this bill? Let me just say the pro-choice people have descended on the General Assembly in mass to kill this legislation. Planned Parenthood, NARAL, Pro-Choice North Carolina, and many so-called Moral Monday agitators are expected to show up at the Legislative Building by the thousands. The newspapers are comparing it to what happened recently in Texas when a pro-life bill was taken up in that state’s legislature. And make no mistake; the political pressure of these leftists groups could win the day, if you don’t put what you believe into action!!!!!
“Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works” (James 2:14-18).
Let me tell you that when Senate Republicans defended this measure on the Senate floor last Wednesday, I believe they won the debate hands-down. But it wasn’t simply the talking points they used that stirred me the most; it was the passion, the conviction, and the courage with which they spoke. They deserve our thanks. But I must also say that any Christian who really believes in family, faith, and freedom would be derelict in their spiritual and civic duties not to take steps to stand with NC House members who plan to speak for HB 695 when it’s considered on Tuesday – especially considering that they will be under incredible pressure.

Talk, talk, talk, we hear a lot of talk today about family, faith, and freedom. But it’s time to put our talk into action. This is an opportunity to make a difference. Don’t listen to those who are cynical, arguing that contacting your Representative won’t make any difference. Don’t listen to the liberal media and their biased reporting against HB 695.
Please take Christian Action today in support of HB 695 – Family, Faith & Freedom Protection Act of 2013. It will indeed take time and effort on your part.
