“This is, unquestionably, some of the most important information the Christian Action League has reported on,” said Rev. Mark Creech, executive director of the Christian Action League. “If it’s to mean anything, it will require prompt action on the part of every faithful Citizen Christian who learns about it.”
Under the leadership of U.S. Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer (D-NY), radical leftists are pushing feverishly to get a measure passed to codify same-sex marriage into federal law. These radicals are afraid the Obergefell v. Hodges decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that made same-sex marriage legal could fall as Roe v. Wade did, which was overturned in June. So Schumer hopes to have the Senate vote on the measure as early as next week, and no later than the end of September.
But the bill, HR 8404 – The Respect for Marriage Act will do so much more than codify same-sex marriage into federal law; it will also force North Carolina, along with every state in the Union, to honor pedophilic, polygamous, and even incestuous marriage.
In 2021, The North Carolina General Assembly passed, and Governor Roy Cooper signed S.B. 35 – Max 4-Yr Age Difference to Marry Under 18 Yrs.
Before this new law, a 16 or 17-year-old could marry in North Carolina with a parent or guardian’s written consent. Minors 14 or 15 years old could also marry. S.B. 35 raised the legal age to marry from 14 to 16. Now anyone over 16 and under 18 is allowed to wed in North Carolina, but only if they marry someone no more than four years older. Plus, the couple must have filed a certified copy of an order issued by a district judge signing off on the marriage.
Previously the Christian Action League reported that raising the legal age to marry was because child marriage was making North Carolina a hot spot for human trafficking. When minors marry, there is a greater risk for sexual and domestic violence, medical and mental health problems, and poverty. Moreover, previous law was making the state a haven for pedophiles seeking to make their prurient sexual lusts for children legal.
Consider some of these North Carolina tragic stories provided by Liberty Counsel, an international non-profit litigation organization that specializes in religious liberty issues:
“‘I’m sure there’s a lot of people who are getting married young, who are doing it with good intentions,’ says Drew Reisinger. ‘But what we’ve come to realize is that there are a lot of people who feel like they got forced to marry their rapist.’
“Drew has been the Buncombe County, North Carolina, registrar of deeds for over a decade. For years, North Carolina had one of the lowest marriage ages in the country, allowing children as young as 14 to be wed.
“Year after year, Drew did what he could to try to make sure the kids were not being forced to marry against their will, but often there was not a lot he could do. There were many times that performing this part of his job made Drew sick …
“Like the time he had to sign off on a young teen marrying a man more than three times her age. But Drew had to follow the law, even when it was revolting to do so. In that instance, the girl was wed to a man old enough to be her grandfather.
“According to a study conducted by the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), 30% of marriages involving a child younger than 15 had an age difference of more than four or five years, meaning that unless the couple was married, sex with the minor would be a crime.
“Sadly, in a move akin to permanent prostitution, some of the minors marry out of financial desperation. Former McDowell County, NC, Register of Deeds Tonia Hampton reports that she once had to marry an underage boy to a 78-year-old man. The boy confided that he ‘was making money from the marriage.’
“In another incident, the registrar recalled a mother bringing in her 16-year-old daughter to marry an incarcerated man twice her age. ‘I was just appalled, but what do you do?’ Tonia said. ‘I just felt like if I had some options to say no, I may have prevented them a lot of heartache.'”
Because of the passage of S.B. 35 in the Tar Heel state a year ago, these scenarios have changed, ending the state’s egregious laws that made it a leader as a child-bride state.
Nevertheless, suppose the legislation that Chuck Schumer is pushing and promises a vote on, possibly as early as next week, is passed. In that case, North Carolina will no longer be able to protect children from pedophile marriages. Instead, all states will be forced to recognize, honor, and obey any other state’s marriage laws, including those with no minimum age requirements.
Liberty Counsel also reports, “Senate Democrats need only 10 Republicans to pass this horrendous bill. Four Republican Senators have publicly expressed they will probably vote for it. In addition, 16 Republicans have indicated they are still undecided.”
“The passage of this bill is a horrific possibility,” said Rev. Creech. “What makes this so relevant to North Carolina is that North Carolina’s U.S. Senator, Thom Tillis (R), says he supports this legislation, and Senator Richard Burr (R) will not divulge his position. Tillis is one of the four Republicans that Senate Democrats are counting on. They may be depending on Burr, too. What a reproach for the Old North State!
URGENT ACTION: Please get in touch with Sens. Burr and Tillis and ask them to oppose the “Respect for Marriage Act.” Please don’t delay. Time is of the essence. This bill is not about respecting marriage. It will destroy God’s design for the sacred institution and create an open season on children by pedophiles who want their sexual deviance legalized. Let these Senators know that you want them to stand up for marriage and not acquiesce to pressures in favor of HR 8404 – The So-Called Respect for Marriage Act.
