“It may sound silly to some, but a fundamental purpose for marriage is to domesticate or civilize men. You may not know, but unmarried men cause society more trouble than married men. It’s not likely that you’ll see many, if any, married men roving the neighborhood in a street gang. You may have heard the story about the husband and wife who were shopping at the mall when a beautiful young woman in a tight dress passed by them. The husband’s eye lingered for just a moment. The wife, without looking up from what she was doing, said, ‘Well, was it worth the trouble you’re in?’” Marriage performs the essential work of civilizing and domesticating men.”
