Editor’s Note: Recently, Gene Nichol, a highly recognized professor at UNC Chapel Hill excoriated Republican leadership in the state for doing what he said is “destroying the meaning of North Carolina.” Rep. Paul “Skip” Stam answers his accusations in the following op-ed. To get the full import of Stam’s piece, you should read Nichol’s piece first in the link of the first paragraph of Stam’s article. Stam’s work is a very important article that addresses many of the nonsensical mainstream arguments by the Left against the state’s current leadership.

Gene Nichol, a “Distinguished Professor” at UNC Chapel Hill, recapitulated his published rants against the Governor and the General Assembly on June 25, 2016, in The News and Observer. He refers to actions of the Governor and the General Assembly as “insanity,” “tragic,” “cruel and indefensible,” “Foundational un-American,” “stealing,” “Totalitarianism,” “threatening,” “coercion,” “degradation.,” and perjury.” He is quite a wordsmith. His charges are so many that to answer them all would take a book. A sample of his charges will demonstrate his reckless disregard for the facts and the law.
