Urgent Action Alert – Please Respond – Previous Alert Suffered From Technical Difficulties

The Christian Action League’s last alert regarding the repeal of North Carolina’s current ban on Sunday hunting (SB 7 – Allow Hunting on Sunday) suffered from technical difficulties, preventing the attempts of many to respond with their objections to the Senate Judiciary II Committee. The Christian Action League urges your immediate response before the Senate takes up the proposed measure at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow, May 12.

Here are some reasons why Sunday hunting would be wrong for North Carolina:

  • In a poll commissioned by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission released in November 2006, sixty five (65%) percent of the general population opposes legalizing hunting on Sunday.  Only twenty five (25%) percent of the general population supported Sunday hunting.
  • Sunday is presently the only day of the week many outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy many other recreational activities without fear of being shot. Many persons and families pursue picnicking, hiking, canoeing, horseback riding, climbing & biking activities on Sundays, knowing they are safe from rifle fire. Sunday hunting would compromise this safe enjoyment of many outdoor recreational activities.
  • While people need a rest on Sundays, so do the animals.  One day per week allows the animal resources to rest.
  • The current ban protects rural churches from disruptions that would be caused by Sunday hunting. Many rural churches have services that begin early in the morning and continue well into the afternoon. According to comments by Wildlife Resources Commission officers in other contexts, Sunday hunting would strain existing resources by further stretching or requiring additional personnel to enforce hunting regulations on another day of the week.  There has been no increase in the number of enforcement officers since 1974.

Take Christian Action: Visit the Christian Action League’s Grassroots Action Center and in your own words send an email expressing your opposition to SB 7 – Allow Hunting on Sunday. You may feel at liberty to use any of the talking points above. Do it now. There is little time for them to hear from you on this bill. Respond now by clicking here
