RALEIGH – This week a bar in downtown Raleigh, The Borough, advertised a benefit for Planned Parenthood with ‘Chopped’ as its theme.
The online news portal Carolina Plott Hound drew attention to the bar’s egregious premise. One of its links read, “Sickos Stage Planned Butcherood Benefit with ‘Chopped’ Theme.”
Since the Carolina Plott Hound alerted its readers, the Borough has removed its theme of ‘Chopped’ from its plans.
According to the Borough’s Facebook page, patrons were invited to come to the bar, Saturday, November 14th at 12 noon for a bartender challenge to raise money for Planned Parenthood.
The invitation from Borough’s reads:
“Local bartenders will compete to design craft cocktails from a list of secret ingredients to be assessed by a panel of judges. Proceeds from the one of a kind cocktails will benefit Planned Parenthood. So don’t hesitate to try each one.
“We’re excited to welcome Planned Parenthood volunteers and supporters for an awesome Saturday afternoon filled with stiff drinks and competition.
Come out and help us support an organization that continues to offer personalized high quality care to our surrounding community – no matter what!”
Although the original theme of ‘Chopped’ has now been dropped, the fundraiser for Planned Parenthood is still on.
The fundraiser comes on the heels of the North Carolina General Assembly’s decision to no longer fund groups like Planned Parenthood with taxpayer dollars. North Carolina lawmakers passed the new legislation following the release of undercover videos by the Center for Medical Progress which depicted high level executives of the organization discussing the dismemberment of aborted babies and selling their body parts.
“Come get your booze in support of an organization that chops up babies! Now there’s an advertisement you don’t see every day. In light of recent events, somebody definitely had to be drinking to come up with that theme or to even mistakenly allow for it.” said Dr. Mark Creech, executive director of the Christian Action League.
“But I’m not surprised at the mix of booze and the baby body parts business,” Dr. Creech added, “I suppose people engaged in support of such butcherous activities on the most vulnerable, little infants, might want a ‘stiff drink’, or several for that matter, to anesthetize the pain of an afflicted conscience.”
Other states are also now considering defunding Planned Parenthood. The Ohio Senate approved legislation on Wednesday to prevent state and certain federal funds from going to the organization.
According to The Daily Signal, Katie Franklin, the director of communications for Ohio Right to Life, says that she is optimistic the legislation will be approved by the House and signed by Ohio’s governor, John Kasich (R).
The Daily Signal also reports this week that the Texas Office of the Inspector General has served subpoenas for clinic records at several Planned Parenthood centers in Texas.
“The inspections follow Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s announcement that Texas will end Planned Parenthood’s participation in the state’s Medicaid program,” reports The Daily Signal.
Gov. Abbot has also said in a statement that the “gruesome harvesting of baby body parts by Planned Parenthood will not be allowed in Texas and the barbaric practice must be brought to an end.”
Dr. Creech noted that the U.S. Supreme Court has made it clear that state governments have an interest in preserving and promoting the health and safety of babies before they are born. States have the authority to enact these laws, laws that favor and encourage childbirth instead of abortion. They may indeed withhold taxpayer subsidies that do the opposite.
“So states can do some chopping too,” he said. It’s just the right kind of chopping – putting Planned Parenthood on the chopping block where it should be.”
