Observe Sanctity of Human Life Week, January 18-24
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:13).
Christian Action League of North Carolina
The Cross of Calvary unequivocally proves the worth of every life. God so loved the world – from the unborn to the aged. The followers of Christ owe no less than to give their resources to honor the lives of those whom he honored by giving his own life.
During Sanctity of Human Life Week, the Church proclaims its duty to protect life – specifically the life of the unborn child. Through the last few decades of controversy over abortion, the Church has largely taken the position to oppose abortion and to uphold the right to life. Since the Holy Scriptures are clear that God is the giver of all life and that all humanity is created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27), then all human life, whether born or unborn, whether facing forms of deprivation of body or soul, no matter its station is sacred. Man’s law alone does not decide the value and dignity of life.
On this week to celebrate life, Christians are urged to engage in corporate prayer for the unborn children that are threatened by abortion, the mothers who abort their children and the doctors who perform their abortions. Christians are encouraged to peaceful resistance to pro-abortionist, always demonstrating the grace of speaking the truth in love. Churches may also offer opportunities for parents of aborted children to receive spiritual and emotional counsel, prayer and healing seminars. In whatever way churches choose to observe the week, it is appropriate to engage in activities that promote God as sovereign over life.
