“I remember when I first started reading the Bible as a teenager. I began with the first chapter of Matthew’s Gospel, which was the genealogy of Christ. It read, so-and-so begat so-and-so, and so-and-so begat so-and-so, you know. I thought to myself if this is what it’s going to be like, forget this. But something within me urged me to keep reading. I know now that was God’s Spirit. I’m glad I wasn’t discouraged to the point of quitting, but I kept reading. Over time, the pages of the Bible became remarkably relevant to everything in my life. I didn’t realize it, but I was changing from within. That’s what the Bible does for the earnest reader. Still, you have to persist. You have to keep reading.”
