RALEIGH – The Roman Catholic Church unveiled efforts Wednesday to expand its influence in state government through a new advocacy organization that hopes to tap into North Carolina’s growing Catholic population.
The two bishops responsible for the state’s estimated 800,000 Catholics said “Catholic Voice NC” will help parishioners learn about issues being considered by the General Assembly that relate to church teaching and values.
Stem cell research, immigration and issues related to abortion and end-of-life matters are among those the group will focus on first, the bishops said at a news conference in front of the Legislative Building. Read the rest of this entry
