On Monday of this week, then President Donald J. Trump, whom many argue was the most pro-life President in American history, declared Friday, January 22nd as National Sanctity of Human Life Day.
“Every human life is a gift to the world. Whether born or unborn, young or old, healthy or sick, every person is made in the holy image of God. The Almighty Creator gives unique talents, beautiful dreams, and a great purpose to every person.” Trump wrote in the proclamation. “On National Sanctity of Human Life Day, we celebrate the wonder of human existence and renew our resolve to build a culture of life where every person of every age is protected, valued, and cherished.”
President Ronald Reagan issued the first National Sanctity of Human Life Day proclamation on January 22, 1984, which is the same date as the infamous 1972 Roe v. Wade decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that legalized abortion. Since then, more than 60 million innocent unborn lives have been snuffed out with scientific expertise. It is nothing less than an unconscionable holocaust of monumental proportions – a terrible stain on the national conscience.
Like Reagan, Presidents H.W. Bush and George W. Bush and Trump continued the tradition of declaring a National Sanctity of Human Life Day.
It’s critical to this great nation’s future for public servants to stand on the side of life. Pro-life activist Randy Alcorn once issued a poignant challenge to lawmakers:
“All those in political office must be painfully aware of the contempt with which many regard you. You are seen as people without integrity or moral courage, as chameleons who kowtow to special interests groups, as spineless bureaucrats more concerned about reelection than the welfare of people. Show the public that they are wrong about you. Be different. Don’t make your goal to keep your job but to do your job. History condemns politicians who defended slavery because it was unpopular to oppose it. Don’t let history condemn you for defending what all people will someday recognize to have been the killing of innocent unborn children.”
One state lawmaker who was never ashamed or reluctant to be a voice for the unborn was former Speaker Pro-Tempore of the North Carolina House, Rep. Paul “Skip” Stam.
“No one in North Carolina ever fought with more passion, grace, or skill to save the lives of unborn babies than Skip Stam,” said Rev. Mark Creech, executive director of the Christian Action League. “Today, children are living, who will likely make meaningful contributions, perhaps even profound contributions to our society, never knowing that they live because of Stam’s pro-life activism and legislative initiatives.”
The link below is a video in which Stam explains what North Carolina law is regarding abortion. In anticipation of National Sanctity of Human Life Day and the need to be informed North Carolinians on the subject of abortion, please take a moment to view this 6 ½ minute video by Stam.
