GOP ‘Bruch Bill’ Perpetuates Addiction among Alcoholics

The Triad Conservative
June 7, 2017

Drinking alcoholic beverages in the morning is one of the key warning signs and symptoms of alcoholism.

Nonetheless, the Republican-dominated North Carolina Senate, in its extraordinary wisdom, passed a “Brunch Bill” last week that would allow the sale of alcoholic beverages on Sunday morning. Calling it a “brunch bill” might lead observers to conclude it is directed at allowing upscale restaurants and hotels this particular prerogative. But instead, the legislation also allows sales at private clubs, convenience stores and any other place that is licensed to sell alcohol.

Let’s ignore for a moment the irony associated with the “family values party” encouraging the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages on Sunday morning– which is utterly unnecessary. (This is the same crowd that has pushed gambling in various ways.)

The fact is that, when people drink in the mornings, it is a major sign of alcoholism. And the North Carolina Senate has just provided more opportunity for that particular sign to become evident.

This has all the fingerprints of a donor-prompted bill. After all, there has been no major groundswell among citizens in North Carolina to make this change. What could the Republican senators possibly have been thinking other than to deliver for major donors?

Meanwhile, the state of North Carolina tragically continues its ongoing transformation from a Bible Belt state into a post-Christian jurisdiction. Thank the “family values” party… in part at least.
