GOOD NEWS ALERT: N.C. House Overrides Governor’s Veto on Religious Liberty Bill

Christian Action League
June 11, 2015

Good NewsDear Friend and Supporter of the Christian Action League,

I just wanted to take a moment to share with you the good news.

Recently, the Christian Action League sought to stir grassroots citizen Christians to contact their representatives in the North Carolina House and urge them to override the Governor’s veto of SB 2 – Magistrates Recusal from Civil Ceremonies. The bill is a very important religious liberty measure for our state.

Our friends from the American Family Association (The Christian Action League is an affiliate) also joined us by encouraging their supporters in North Carolina to do the same.

Hundreds of you responded with phone calls and emails. You’ll be very glad to know that your contacts made a difference.

I am delighted to report that the N.C. House voted this morning at around 10:00 a.m. to override the Governor’s veto by the required 3/5ths majority vote necessary, 69-41. The bill now becomes law.

I am reminded of a story in Luke chapter 17, where ten lepers besought our Lord Jesus to heal them. He did. But in all of their excitement, only one leper returned to give thanks.

I want to encourage you to pause where you are and give thanks to God for this very critical legislative victory. As the Doxology we sing in church says, “Praise God from whom all blessing flow…”

Second take a moment and go to this link to see how your lawmaker in the House voted on the motion to override.  If he indeed did vote in favor of the override, then be sure to email or phone him or her again, just to say:

“Thanks for your vote to override the Governor’s veto of SB 2. Religious liberty has been sustained and today all North Carolinians are just a little freer because of you.”

Lastly, we’ve been working hard on SB 2, as well as many other bills, this legislative session. We need your financial assistance. Won’t you help us now with a gift of $10, $20, $50, $100, or more.

You can give a secure donation online by going to the Christian Action League’s website, look in the right margin and click on the “Donate” button. Then follow the prompts.

P.S. The Christian Action League will have a story on SB 2 and the override vote in its next edition of The CAL Insider.
