“There is a lot about worship that seems to be changing – some of it good and some of it not. We’ve gone from hard benches to sit on to cushioned ones to comfortable theatre seats. We’ve gone from church etiquette that encourages a quiet and reverent spirit to casually sipping on our coffee. What’s next, popcorn and chocolate bars, along with our multimedia presentations? What I’m concerned about is whether we are preserving the holiness of the worship experience – whether we are sufficiently treating corporate worship like the event it’s supposed to be – where we join together in God’s presence, bringing our very best – wearing our best clothes – coming with our best spirit and bringing our very best gifts. I’m becoming concerned about how some of these contemporary changes may affect my worship. Worship is something exceptional and not like any other gathering.”
