“God’s economy requires constant diligence from his followers. If our life’s work for Christ’s sake is always to impact others positively, then we must be careful, lest a ‘little folly’ torpedoes what we’ve done. Once I knew a mighty man of God who had a stellar resume of church and political service. But he let down his guard and took up with a prostitute. Perhaps he thought no one would know about what seemed to him a small indiscretion compared to the rest of the good in his life. But his unwillingness to repent of his sin ultimately caught up with him, and it ruined his effectiveness for the Lord. He knew the Lord’s forgiveness; nevertheless, in that one act of folly, he squandered away all his moral authority. The Scripture warns, ‘Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.’” (I Peter 5:8).
