They didnt want a goverment that enforced any one reigion on its people. Our money was NOT originally stamped with "IGWT", it was not in our original pledge of allegence.Seperation of church and state gives us our strength. People like the taiban support a religous state.Even Jesus said (Bible) "Give unto Ceaser what is Ceasers, and God which is Gods." I've always been taught that means a seperation of church and state. Look at Jesess time- people were persecuted for their beliefs. If you seperated chuch and state these things go away. So even Jesus would want church and state seperated.Goverments are here to put up roads, and clean water - churches and congregations are here for your soul, dont mix the two.
