New Ad Provides Defense of HB 2 that Citizen Christians are Encouraged to Share

RALEIGH – Her name is Chloe and she’s a high school student from Greenville. Facing the camera and in a voice that almost pleads, she says, “I am worried about the Charlotte bathroom ordinance. Just changing in front of girls my own age is intimidating. Now, they want boys to shower and change beside me. It’s not just about privacy, its safety too. Charlotte’s ordinance gives men access to what should be a private place. HB 2 is a fix. It protects my privacy and safety.”
That’s the content of the new 30 second television ad that defends HB 2.
Sponsored by the Institute for Faith and Family, it’s being run in the Raleigh, Durham, and Fayetteville viewing areas. The media campaign, which includes digital and online showings, will cost north of $200,000.
HB 2, commonly referred to as “the bathroom bill,” was passed by the North Carolina General Assembly and signed by Governor Pat McCrory in March. The measure overturned an unconstitutional overreach by the city of Charlotte.
Charlotte’s so-called nondiscrimination ordinance, barring all common sense, permitted an individual, regardless of his or her biological anatomy, to use any restroom, locker room, showers, or changing room, with whichever gender he or she subjectively identified. The ordinance not only violated a person’s fundamental right to privacy, but also created a loophole sexual predators could exploit, putting women and children in situations of danger.
Moreover, the Charlotte ordinance unfairly allowed the government to interfere into private businesses and churches by forcing them to promote ideas and participate in events that would have conflicted with their peacefully expressed religious or moral beliefs.
Since HB 2 became law in the Tar Heel state and provided “a fix,” as Chloe rightly contended in the ad, gay rights activists, a Leftist media, the Democratic Party, and various Progressives have initiated a national effort to smear the measure. They’ve fiendishly used HB 2 during an election year to distract from Governor Pat McCory’s phenomenal success righting the state’s economy, while also erroneously painting Republican lawmakers that supported it as socially behind the times and backward.
Celebrities, large corporate entities, and major sports groups, have also gotten on the bandwagon to pressure lawmakers to repeal what remains to be a necessary law for preserving the privacy and safety rights of the state’s citizens.
Tami Fitzgerald, executive director of the Institute for Faith and Family, said in a statement released to the press:
“Our television ad is necessary to tell the truth about HB 2 by educating North Carolinians about the danger and risk associated with laws and policies like Charlotte’s ridiculous ordinance which would have forced private businesses, churches, schools, and public buildings to open their women’s bathrooms and locker rooms to any man claiming to be a woman, even if that person has a male anatomy. Charlotte attempted to use government power to coerce everyone, including children, into pledging allegiance to a radical new gender ideology over and above their right to privacy, safety, and freedom from government intrusion.
“Our ad shows that HB 2 is a fix…”
In reference to the new ad campaign, State Rep. Chris Sgro (D-Guilford), who also serves as the executive director of Equality NC told WRAL News, “HB2 has hurt our state for months now…It’s an economic disaster…We call on McCrory to denounce the false ad…”
But Dr. Mark Creech, executive director of the Christian Action League, said Sgro’s contentions about the impact of HB 2 on the state’s economy were “seriously overblown – pure hyperbole.”
“But the worst part is that he fails to put the blame for the economic losses that have been suffered where they really belong – Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts,” said Dr. Creech. “One thing about Mayor Roberts you have to admit. She’s not a cheap politician. She’s cost Charlotte, as well as a few other places in the state a fortune.”
The new ad provides the means for every concerned citizen Christian to help defend HB 2, keep it as law, and stand with the lawmakers who had the wisdom and moral courage to pass it.
