Dearest Friends,
Yesterday I spent the morning resting and recovering from the final week of intense legislative activity in the North Carolina General Assembly. The hours were so long and full that, unfortunately, there wasn’t sufficient time to send out the Christian Action League’s weekly e-newsletter, the CAL Insider. But I assure you that in the next edition we will get you up to date.
This much I can tell you now. When lawmakers adjourned Friday night for the end of the 2016 Short Session, every bad legislative initiative with which CAL supporters were concerned had been turned back – every one of them. No increase in the state’s budget for lottery advertising, no irresponsible alcohol proposals that would in some way endanger the public’s health, no repeal or caving on HB 2 – commonly known as the bathroom bill.
And of course, this doesn’t even mention all of the excellent things lawmakers approved that will make life better for all of our state’s citizens.
The Christian Action League is indebted, in fact, our state is indebted to the stupendous leadership of so many in that august body, especially those who share our faith and Christian values and demonstrate what it means to be a public official being “salt” and “light” as Christ commands. We should not only thank God for them, but we should also contact them and express our deep appreciation for their service.
Despite all of the left wing cadre’s condemnation of our state, I am convinced North Carolina has become a model of resistance for other states that we must never surrender to pressures that would have us abandon our nation’s founding principles.
Liberals accuse North Carolina leadership of taking us backwards. I agree. They are. They are taking us back to those eternal and unchanging verities that made us a great nation.
Lastly, on behalf of the Board of the Christian Action League and its staff, let me wish you and your family a very Happy Independence Day.
God Bless,
Dr. Mark Creech
